The University of Manitoba has chosen a design team to develop a master plan for the development of the former Southwood Golf Course at the university’s Fort Garry campus.
The winning design is called “Arpent” from a group of Winnipeg and Toronto developers (Janet Rosenberg & Studio Inc., Toronto and Cibinel Architects Ltd., Winnipeg, with Landmark Planning & Design Inc., Winnipeg, and ARUP Canada Inc., Toronto.)
The design features a strong connection to the Red River in both its urban and landscape elements. Residential structures and commercial amenities will sit between University Crescent and the river, as well as along Pembina Highway. There is also a lot of public green space proposed.
The design also depicts wetlands, boardwalks, pavillions, boat launches and paths along the riverfront.
The final design will also include more transportation options and amenities near Investors Group Field.
Now that the design has been chosing, a planning phase will start. The university and other stakeholders will collaborate with the design team to nail down final designs and establish a framework for the campus over the next 25 years.
