The Canadian Under 21 Ringette Team- featuring Manitobans Ryann Backman, Samantha Renooy, Talia Gallant, and Keyona Tomiak- completed a perfect run through the round robin portion of the World Championship Tournament in Helsinki with an 8-5 win over the host country of Finland this morning.
Canada finished at 6-0, but the win over the Finns was by far the most competitive of the round robin for the tournament favorites who had outscored their opposition 118-1 in the 5 previous games. Finland wound up 5-1 in preliminary round play, outscoring their opponents 137-5 before losing to Canada.
The two teams will now meet in a best of 3 playoff for the President’s Trophy. Game One is set for Saturday morning at 10 a.m. CST
