After ending 2015 with a 4-3 win, the Manitoba Moose start 2016 with the same score, but a different result. The Iowa Wild won 4-3 in a shootout Friday night after the Moose took game 1 of the back to back.
It started promising for the host Moose, Darren Kramer and Jimmy Lodge both scored for an early 2-0 lead. Iowa would get one back before the end of the first for a 2-1 Manitoba lead into the break.
Patrice Cormier opened the second period with a goal to get the Moose back to a two goal lead. The Wild had an answer with a goal of their own in the second and one more in the third to force OT.
Overtime would solve nothing, sending the game to a shootout. Iowa scored on both of their first two shots while the Moose were unable to convert.
Downtown Winnipeg will be the host of the next 6 straight Moose games. They continue their 8 game home-stand Sunday against Grand Rapids.
