Despite being out shot 44-19, the Winnipeg Jets managed a 4-1 victory over Nashville Tuesday night.
Connor Hellebuyck had an almost perfect performance, making 43 saves and holding the shutout until late in the third period.
Both of Winnipeg’s first two goals were scored by Drew Stafford, after both of them required video review. Nikolaj Ehlers was able to stay onside in the buildup to the first goal, while Stafford’s tip in was ruled below the crossbar on goal #2.
Ben Chiarot scored his first of the season to extend the Jets lead while Alex Burmistrov added an empty netter to seal the game.
The victory is a big one for Winnipeg in the very early stages of the playoff push. Beating Nashville decreases the Preds lead over the Jets for the final playoff spot to just 5 points. It’s also a small taste of redemption after the Predators embarrassed the Jets with a 7-0 win in November.
Winnipeg continues a road trip with a stop in Dallas on Thursday. The Stars lost 6-2 Tuesday night to the New York Rangers.
