Winnipeg Jets forward Nikolaj Ehlers has been fined $2,000 by the NHL for an apparent diving offence in a game last month.
NHL Hockey Operations Department says the rookie forward violated league Rule 64 which was brought in to bring attention to penalize players who dive and embellish in an attempt to draw penalties.
The league says Ehlers was issued a warning following an incident against Arizona on Nov. 21. The event that triggered the fine occurred on Dec 29th in a game against Detroit.
Bobby Farnham of the New Jersey Devils was issued the same fine by the NHL on Thursday. Money from the fines go to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
19-year-old Ehlers has 13 points in 40 games so far in his rookie season.
