Winnipeg city councillor Ross Eadie has been suspended from the Winnipeg Police Board.
The moves comes after an investigation into his high profile night in the drunk tank back in November.
The board conducted an investigation, deciding to suspend Eadie.
Vice Chairperson Barry Tuckett says members of the board must follow a strict code of conduct and they’re still investigating whether Eadie broke that code.
“If there is a breach there’s a number of consequences. It could be just a reprimand, if it’s a breach, it could be asking a resignation or asking the mayor. But we’re not there yet at all, we’re simply making inquiries.”
The councillor admits he can’t remember the night he was drunk, but doesn’t believe it should affect his position on the police board. He says he plans to fight the suspension.
Eadie blacked out in a taxi November 7th after a night of drinking. The cabbie called the police who took him to the drunk tank to sleep it off. Eadie initially reacted angrily upon hearing Mayor Brian Bowman had been told about what happened but eventually apologized when Police Chief Devon Clunis admitted it was him who called the Mayor’s Office.
It’s not clear exactly when a final decision might be made.
