The Winnipeg Jets returned home from their longest road trip of the season, but not triumphantly, as they lost 4-2 to the Buffalo Sabres.
Sam Reinhart completed a hat trick performance with an empty net goal set up by former Jet Evander Kane to clinch it for the visitors. Marcus Foligno scored off a rebound early in the 3rd period to put Buffalo in front to stay after Winnipeg had rallied from a pair of one goal deficits in the first two periods.
Blake Wheeler and Mathieu Perreault scored for the Jets who outshot the Sabres 44-29, but didn’t seem to dominate the game to the extent that shot disparity would indictate.
Winnipeg fans booed Kane every time the ex-Jet touched the puck, but cheered loudly when he was catapulted to the ice via an open ice hip check from Dustin Byfuglien during the second period.
The loss dropped the Jets back to below .500 on the season at 19-20-3, while Buffalo ended a 6 game losing streak.
Winnipeg is back in action Tuesday Night when they host San Jose at 7 p.m.
