Changes to the Health Sciences Centre are underway and will include a helipad slated to open in the spring.
It will be Winnipeg’s first hospital helipad and could reduce patient transport times by 30 minutes. That means an increased rate of survival for patients in life-threatening situations.
STARS Manitoba Clinical operations manager Ray Rempel says being able to land an air ambulance in Winnipeg is a game changer.
“We’re really pleased. The biggest benefactor of this is our patients. Currently, we have to land at the airport and do transfers of patients from the helicopter to the ambulance. With the helipad, it’s direct, point A to point B.”
There will be an open house tomorrow at Wellness Marketplace on William Avenue if you want to find out more about the helipad. It runs at 1130 a.m. and 6 p.m.
