A 51 year old man is behind bars after a robbery, a pursuit and exchange of gunfire with Winnipeg Police.
It started at 3:40 Saturday morning, when the Petro-Canada at Kenaston Boulevard and McGillivray Boulevard was robbed by a man with a gun, who fired a shot during the robbery. No one got hurt.
A half-hour later, police spotted the suspect vehicle at Regent Avenue West and Stapon Road, and a pursuit began. The suspect fired his gun at police during the chase, and police returned fire.
The pursuit came to an end at a dead end on Springfield Road west of Lagimodiere Boulevard, and the suspect was taken into custody.
The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba has been notified — as is the case for any situation where a police officer fires a gun.
Two portions of eastbound Regent Avenue were closed for several hours on Saturday between Starlight and Owen and Plessis and Moroz.
