A record number of jobs in the Manitoba construction industry are on the horizon.
BuildForce Canada released a report today that the province has great momentum, meaning more employment for skilled workers.
Ron Hambey from the Manitoba Construction Association tells 680 CJOB that the boost comes from many sectors.
“We’ve seen some very strong development in the health care industry, lots of infrastructure work, very strong multi-family construction market, lots of commercial development, Hambey says. “But I think the big story, certainly in this forecast, is hydro and hydro transmission lines and some pipeline work. That’s certainly driving then numbers for the next five years.”
Another factor is that twenty percent of workers will be baby boomers retiring from the industry.
Manitoba’s ten year construction plan should peak in activity by 2018.
