If you needed help with your quad, car, snowmobile or washing machine, Gary Schellenberg was your guy.
Now West St. Paul is mourning the loss of its Mr. Fix-It and his 14-year-old son Evan.
The pair were killed after their snowmobiles collided in a freak accident on the weekend.
Evan had been on his way to a bonfire early Saturday morning up at English Lake, where the family had a cabin. Gary was on his way home.
Their snowmobiles collided and they died at the scene.
West St. Paul Mayor Bruce Henley says Gary’s handyman skills combined with his giving personality made him a valued friend and neighbour.
Henley says his community is mourning with the Schellenberg family.
“They were special people. They had a couple of foster children. And they were just known as a warm place – any time you could stop at their house, they’d help you out in any way, shape or form,” he said.
Henley says the family loved being together, fishing, hiking and snowmobiling at their cabin.
Gary leaves behind his wife, three children and two foster children.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with funeral costs.
