On a night where the struggling Winnipeg Jets needed a win, their youngest player came through. Rookie Nikolaj Ehlers netted his first career hat-trick as the Jets beat Arizona 5-2 Tuesday night.
Ehlers struck twice in the first period for the early 2-0 lead into the break. Dustin Byfuglien helped out with a pair in the second that sandwiched Ehlers third of the night.
Despite the advantage on the score-sheet, it was still a busy night for Connor Hellebuyck. He stopped 35 of 37 shots in the winning effort. Mark Scheifele returned after a 7 game layoff due to injury with one assist in his return.
Having snapped a 3 game losing skid at home, the Jets head into the All-Star break with a bit of momentum. Following some time off it is back to Winnipeg February 2nd when the Jets host Dallas.
