An 18-year-old man is facing a number of charges after a rap video surfaced online making violent threats towards Kildonan East Collegiate.
The four minute video was posted on YouTube on Wednesday.
In the video, the teen mentions hurting certain students, talks about buying guns and ammo and “taking the whole school down”.
The rap also has lyrics like, “I know I got the whole school uncomfortable and i’m making you shiver, cause I got enough flow to stir up all the bodies in the Red River.”
This is the second video of its kind. In fall, a rap song, making similar threat, was posted under the same username.
Constable Eric Hofley says the man allegedly behind the video is a former student.
“When someone allegedly is willing to post this type of video threatening institutions, threatening people, the service is going to take that very seriously and we will do all within our power to identify that person and ensure the appropriate charges are laid.”
The teen is facing charges of Uttering Threats, Harassing Communications x 4 and Mischief Under $5000/Obstruct in Enjoyment for his alleged involvement.
After watching the video, a parent of a student at the high school tells Global News the most disturbing part is the threat of physical violence.
“The harder you’ll fall I can take you all out, the guns, the mention of the bodies in the Red River, what kind of person does this?
The River East Transcona School Division Superintendent Kelly Barkman says they’re taking the threat very seriously and are ready to put the school on lock-down at a moment’s notice.
“We’ve put the school on high alert. What I mean by high alert is staff are on watch for any strangers on or around the school grounds and we have safety monitors that are there.
Letters have been sent home to parents informing them about the video.
The accused has been released on a promise to appear.
