Winnipeggers braved a dip in freezing water Saturday afternoon for a good cause.
It was the fourth annual Polar Plunge, held outside the Holiday Inn Airport-Polo Park. The event raises awareness and donations for Special Olympics Manitoba.
Genevieve Michael is a veteran of the event: “We’re on the Law Enforcement Torch Run committee, so most of us have plunged years in a row, so this is my third plunge.” She says she’s happy to do whatever she can to raise awareness for Manitoban athletes.
Many donned costumes, but most were in bathing suits. Numerous police officers were in uniform as they dove into the drink.
Julio Berzenji was one of those Winnipeg Police officers, and when asked how cold the water was — “I’m guessing it’s just right around zero, but, I don’t know. I’m no scientist!”
