Safety for all is the mission of Transit and the Winnipeg police, but some changes have been made as to who will enforce it.
A police report in January stated some cadets were hired to help deter assaults to bus drivers in the city.
But now, Deputy police chief Dave Thorne says the role of officer needs to be taken on by police on transit, not the cadets.
Chair of the Winnipeg Police Board, Councillor Scott Gillingham says the question of who will pay for it all needs to be answered again as cadets are paid far less than police.
Thorne says police have been riding buses since January in the early stages of the effort to curb issues on public transit.
A review is being done, and results are expected in a few months.
