Despite adding more staff, wait times continue to grow for Manitobans wanting their adoption information.
When the province first unsealed 75 years of adoption records last June, they said the wait time would be six weeks, then in fall it grew to 12 weeks and now people have to wait roughly six months.
Officials tell us the initial influx of requests was so high it has created a backlog, but staff hope to decrease wait times over the next several months.
Roughly 1000 people have requested access to birth records since June.
The records allow adult adoptees to find out the identities of their birth parents, and vice-versa.
