Firefighters had to rescue two of their own from an early morning fire in St. James Saturday.
Crews were called to 126 Bruce Avenue at around 12:45 a.m. for a basement fire.
As a crew searched the home for residents, two firefighters became trapped by a flashover — fire that ripped across the entire basement instantly.
The fire fighters called “mayday” and more crews came to their rescue, Alex Forrest, president of the local firefighters’ union, said in a Facebook post.
The two were taken to hospital in stable condition but have since been released.
Two occupants were also taken to hospital for smoke inhalation, according to the City of Winnipeg.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
