Ondrej Pavelec’s return to the lineup was a successful one as the Winnipeg Jets got past the Edmonton Oilers 2-1 in a shootout Saturday night.
Pavelec was making his first start since he was injured November 21 against Arizona and the team in front of him played a tight defensive game, surrendering just 22 shots in the game. Laruent Brossoit made 32 saves in just his second career NHL start.
Blake Wheeler opened the scoring in the second with his 15th of the season. Matt Hendricks would tie the game on a shorthanded breakaway just over halfway through the final frame.
Wheeler and Andrew Ladd scored on their shootout attempts, and Pavelec sealed the deal by denying super-rookie Connor McDavid.
The Jets return to action Tuesday night in Carolina.
