The individual curlers to be honored include Karen Dunbar (Anderson) of Souris who was an 8 time Manitoba Champ at the Women’s Senior Women’s and Masters Women’s levels with Joan Mogt of Souris, and Joan McDougall of Brandon. And Ron Westcott of Fort Rouge who appeared in 42 Manitoba Championships and won the silver medal at the World Senior Men’s Championship as a substitute skip for Carl German.
Curler-Builder Bob Boughey was the President of the Fort Rouge Curling Club in 1993-94 and was also a member of the inaugural Safeway Select Committee in 1995. Bob also served as the transportation committee chair for the 2003 World Championship and was the Arena, Ice, and Rocks Committee Chair for the 2008 Brier. Boughey was also the second for Ron Westcott’s 2015 Masters Championship Rink.
Audrey Hogg-Warren is also going into the Builders Category as a former Manitoba Ladies Curling Association President in 1995-96 and as a volunteer with a 1991 and 2003 World’s and 1998 and 2008 Briers.
The four teams to be honored are Lois Fowler’s 2015 World Senior Women’s Champions, the Don Montgomery rink who captured the Manitoba School Boys and Canadian Junior Men’s Championship in 1947, the Stan Gowling foursome who followed in 1948, and the Leo Johnson team from Strathcona who won the first ever Manitoba and Canadian Senior Men’s championship in 1965.
The official induction ceremony is set for Sunday, May 1st at Canad Inns Polo Park.
