It didn’t take long for tips to start flooding in to police in the case of missing teen Cooper Nemeth.
Constable Eric Hofley says moments after his parents asked for help at a news conference yesterday, the phone started to ring.
“Literally within minutes of that briefing ending yesterday, I had five or six calls to this office specifically, as well as emails. Certainly people were directly contacting the missing persons unit as well,” he said.
Police are now following up on them, hoping one will lead them to him.
Hofley says no tip is too small or insignificant.
Search Area Expanding
The search area for missing Winnipeg teenager Cooper Nemeth is growing again.
Family and friends now say they’re going to be looking in Transcona and St. Boniface, as well as downtown.
They are following up on some information the missing 17-year-old may have been seen near Siloam Mission last night, in need of medical attention.
Meanwhile, police are searching areas north of the Perimeter along Henderson Highway.
Police Searching For Witnesses
Police are looking for two witnesses – “Derek” and “Brittany” who may have been with him the morning he went missing. They may have been driving a white Honda Civic.
Detective Sgt. Shaunna Neufeld of the Missing Person’s unit says police aren’t able to reveal many details because of the ongoing investigation, but want to speak to this pair.
“We really need the public’s help in identifying who Derek and who Brittany are. We’re asking that anyone with information regarding these individuals come forward or anyone with any other information come forward,” she said.
And as his friends and family continue to wait, Nemeth’s dad Brent has a message for his son.
“Cooper, if you can see this, your friends need you, your team needs you, we need you. We love you, Cooper. Please come home and we can figure everything out. Doesn’t matter. We can take care of it,” he said.
Brent Nemeth says his family is overwhelmed by those wanting to help find Cooper.
“I didn’t realize how many people must have liked Cooper. It’s overwhelming and (we’re) grateful,” he said.
Nemeth was last seen wearing black jacket with a River East Marauders hockey logo on the front, black pants, and brown skater runners.
