A pair of city councillors think the green bin idea is rotten.
So, Russ Wyatt and Ross Eadie want to scrap the idea of curbside organic waste pick up for homeowners.
Wyatt tells 680 CJOB they’ve drafted a motion to go before council next week because the city needs to pay for other things, like infrastructure.
“It’s not like we don’t have enough challenges and enough things we have to try to fund. But, to do something like this at a time when residents across our city have really embraced organic composting on their own, seems ridiculous,” says Wyatt.
Wyatt says the motion asks staff to look at how organic waste from restaurants and insititutions, like hospitals, can be diverted from the landfill.
If the green bin plan goes through, it could mean homeowners anteing up another $100 a year to the city.
The motion will be presented to council on Wednesday.
