The University of Manitoba Bisons men’s hockey team couldn’t seal the deal, losing game two of their Canada West quarterfinal series 2-1 to the visiting Calgary Dinos. That ties the best-of-three series at a game apiece.
After managing just 11 shots in a game one win, the Bisons poured on the pressure in game two, but Dinos goalie Steven Stanford rose to the challenge, making 34 saves to stave off elimination. The decisive game three goes this afternoon at 3 p.m. at Wayne Fleming Arena.
The women’s team also forced a game there with a 5-1 win at Saskatchewan. Venla Hovi scored twice while Alanna Sharman, Lauryn Keen and Kayleigh Wiens also scored for the Bisons. Game three goes tonight at 7 in Saskatoon.
Volleyball, Basketball Playoffs Set

The Bisons men’s basketball team closed the regular season on a seven-game win streak and will try to ride that energy into the playoffs as they host Fraser Valley in the quarterfinals starting March 4. The Wesmen will have to take part in a best-of-three play-in series on the road against the University of Regina starting February 26. Both women’s teams missed the playoffs.
