Manitoba’s legislature could soon be grappling with the issue of employers asking for sick notes from absent workers.
St. Norbert MLA Dave Gaudreau wants to change the law surrounding sick notes so that you have to miss seven days in a year before your boss can ask for one.
The rules surrounding sick days depend on where you work, but Gaudreau says keeping people out of the doctors office would save a lot of money.
“Even if the notes were free that visit gets billed back to Manitoba Health.” Gaudreau told 680 CJOB, “It’s around $50 for the cheapest visit to a doctor, which could add up.”
Gaudreau says his proposal is also about giving families some breathing space. It costs 25 dollars to get a sick note from a doctor.
He plans to introduce the bill Thursday.
