Shoppers Drug Mart is looking to get into the medical marijuana business.
According to a report from the Globe and Mail, Canada’s biggest drug store chain is in talks with producers across the country about selling some in their stores.
Mark Gobuty runs a medical marijuana company called Peace Naturals Project. He says he doesn’t think this would require any big changes to the rules.
“If we view it as a medicine, and knowing that they have certain lockups, there will be storage limits and all those things that pharmacies are still accountable for.”
Gobuty says talks with drug stores actually started years ago.
“It would make sense that a location that sells and furnishes medication would look at medical cannabis for their clients.”
Companies wanting to sell medical marijuana still need a license from Health Canada.
