Manitoba’s top judges say they “cannot and will not” move into their new St. Boniface Court building next week.
In a letter to Attorney General Gord Mackintosh, they say the renovations that were supposed to be done before the move have barely started.
They say the unfinished St. Boniface Judicial Centre has security, privacy and confidentiality concerns. Mackintosh admits he shares their frustration.
“We’re all frustrated with the delay. There’s eight weeks and that was caused as a result of the implications of people that had to move in order to accommodate the construction. So they’re trying to balance all that. It really is truly frustrating.”
Mackintosh says no court matters will be delayed, but some will be moved to the main law courts building.
