Neither Manitoba team will be in the finals at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts thanks to Northern Ontario’s Krista McCarville.
The skip of the Thunder Bay rink beat Jennifer Jones and Team Canada 7-5 in the semifinal Saturday night.
Through five ends, Jones was cruising. She scored deuces twice in the first three ends, but only scored one point the rest of the match.
Up 5-4 in the 9th, Jones rolled out on her final shot, giving McCarville a steal of two going to the final end. In the tenth Jones came up short on a draw that would have tied the game, giving the win to Northern Ontario.
McCarville will face Alberta’s Chelsea Carey in tonight’s final for the Scotties title. Carey comes with some Manitoba roots as she was born and raised in the province. McCarville also has some ties with some family calling Manitoba home.
Officially, the all-Manitoba match will be for bronze with Team Manitoba and Kerri Einarson playing Team Canada.
Einarson lost 7-5 to McCarville Saturday afternoon in the 3-vs-4 page playoff in much the same way as Jones, giving up steals in the last two ends to lose the match. The bronze medal game begins this afternoon at 2:30. The championship final starts at 7:30 p.m.
