Winnipeg Police are trying to track down a taxi driver who may have tried to force a young girl into his cab last week.
A 13 year old girl says she was walking to school in the West End on Thursday morning. That’s when she claims a grey taxi pulled up beside her.
She says the driver asked if she needed a lift and when she said no, he got out and tried to grab her arm.
The girl was able to get away and contact police.
Constable Eric Hofley says it’s a scary situation that investigators are taking very seriously.
“It’s a common time for kids on the way to school. You know, we like to think our children are safe on their way but unfortunatley on occasion these things do happen,” he says.
The alleged incident happened on February 25th, around 8.30 a.m.
The girl was walking in the area of Sargent Avenue and McGee Street.
Hofley says she hasn’t been able to remember what taxi company the man drove for.
The suspect driver is described as having darker skin, about 5’10 with a medium build. He’s about 40 years old. He had a dark coloured beard and moustache with some white in it. He was wearing a black toque, a black sweater and grey or brown sweat pants.
Police looking for any witnesses to come forward and call either them or crimestoppers at 204.786.TIPS.
