There has been a steady stream of Syrian refugees coming to Manitoba the past two months.
800 refugees are here already, most of them in Winnipeg. About 2,000 more are expected to arrive here by the end of the year.
“We consistently receive, per capita, more refugees than any of the other provinces do,” explains Immigration Minister Erna Braun. “Our goal is somewhere in the neighbourhood of 3,000, and we’re certainly on track to reach that goal.”
On the weekend Canada marked the arrival of the 25,000th refugee in the country, which was the government’s goal by the end of February.
