Property taxes are going up in Winnipeg.
680 CJOB has learned that Wednesday’s city budget will include a 2.33 per cent increase along with a frontage fee hike.
The money is to cover road improvements and to pay for rapid transit according to city officials.
“The one and one (per cents) for regional and local roads and then last year in the budget we identified .33 (per cent) to help fund the second stage of rapid transit,” said Mayor Brian Bowman.
Bowman admits this budget has been even tougher to balance than last year’s.
“None of them are easy, I mean both budgets have been difficult,” Bowman said.
“14 years of neglect in terms of infrastructure investments is catching up with us.”
The full budget will be tabled Wednesday afternoon.
