Winnipeg Police are investigating after hazmat crews discovered a possible meth lab inside a downtown apartment.
Emergency crews found something they call “concerning” after flooding the area on Thursday afternoon.
Six people and 16 suites were evacuated at 128 Smith Street between Broadway and York. No one was hurt.
District Chief Dan Tomchuk says it started when a hazmat team was called in to one of the suites.
“We found some concerning evidence there and police are going to investigate further at this point,” he says. “It’s in their hands now.”
It’s still unclear whether anyone has been arrested. Police are expected to release more details today.
There was no damage to the building.
TRAFFIC: Due to an on-going investigation, Smith between Broadway & York is closed. An evacuation is underway, no injuries reported.
