I think most of us have had that whoopsie daisy on social media. You know, that post where hours or days later you’ve said to yourself “Why did I put that up there?” To say that Jamie Hall has had some social media regret might be an understatement.
As you may have heard on 680 CJOB today, Jamie Hall has now resigned as a Liberal candidate in the riding of Southdale. Hall made some disparaging remarks a few years ago on Twitter about women and his girlfriend. Tweets which have now come back to haunt him.
Liberal leader Rana Bokhari stated…
As a woman I simply cannot accept comments that disparage women. Manitobans have every right to expect and demand a high standard of their candidates and MLAs. We are Liberals and we hold ourselves to a higher standard. It’s what Manitobans expect and demand.
I applaud her action in removing Mr. Hall as a candidate.
But it got me thinking – there is a lesson here folks. It has become almost standard practice for employers to check social media accounts before they hire. This is further proof that we all need to pause and think before posting anything online.
