There are harsh words coming from developers on several fees included in the city’s 2016 operating budget.
Manitoba Home Builders’ Association President Mike Moore was took to City Hall to offer up a warning.
He says Winnipeg’s population will never reach 1-million because of the fees.
“Our city is rapidly becoming a place that is no longer affordable. The rural municipalities and outlying communities, along with the neighbouring provinces, are becoming more attractive options every day.”
Moore adds Winnipeg’s permit fee costs are now higher than Saskatoon, Regina, Calgary and Edmonton.
He’s hoping the city and the home builders can work more closely together. The new fees are expected to bring in an additional $4-million for the city.
