Mike McEwen gave up a deuce on the first end to Kevin Koe of Alberta. And that set the trend for the rest of the night as the Manitoba champs went on to a 9-4 loss during the Monday evening draw of the Brier in Ottawa.
The game got away completely from the McEwen rink in the fourth end when the skip was just off a bit on is two shots, and Koe made him pay with a take out and stay to count four and take a 6-1 lead. The loss dropped Manitoba to 2-2 heading into a Tuesday morning matchup with winless Jamie Koe of the Northwest Territories.
Northern Ontario’s Brad Jacobs is the lone undefeated rink at 4-0 after rolling over Team Canada’s Pat Simmons 10-6. Kevin Koe of Alberta follows at 4-1, while Brad Gushue of Newfoundland-Labrador is sitting at 1-3.
