This year was the best season the University of Manitoba men’s basketball team has had in well over a decade, but they won’t have a medal to show for it.
The Bisons lost to UBC 101-72 in the bronze medal game at the Canada West Final Four to finish off the podium. The Bisons shot only 32 per cent from the field compared to 50 per cent by the Thunderbirds, who also hit 16 three-pointers.
Kieth Omoerah led the Bisons with 13 points while AJ Basi and Joseph Medrano both pitched in 12.
This year marked the first time the Bisons won a playoff series in men’s basketball since 2001. Calgary won the gold medal with a 91-84 win over Thompson Rivers.
