Just days after he was arrested for impaired driving, Manitoba provincial court Judge Michel Chartier has resigned.
He was charged by Carberry RCMP on Sunday and released on a promise to appear in a Brandon courtroom on March 24.
Chartier had been placed on administrative leave before the courts announced his resignation today.
In a statement, Chief Judge Ken Champagne says, Chartier ‘has done the honourable thing, recognizing that the charges brought against him would significantly undermine public confidence in the judiciary’.
Chartier was appointed as a provincial court judge in 2007.
