Russia has played the spoiler for the home team at the World Women’s Curling Championship in Swift Current, Saskatchewan.
Ana Sidorova defeated Canada’s Chelsea Carey 7-4 in the 3-4 Page Playoff Saturday afternoon.
Carey, who won the Scotties national title for Alberta, is a Morden native who lived most of her life in Manitoba before heading west.
The Russians advance to Saturday night’s semifinal to face Japan. The winner of that meets Switzerland in the final.
Canada has not won a world championship since 2008.
