The Winnipeg Jets have signed free agent forward Brandon Tanev of Providence College. The deal is for one year and is a two way contract worth a pro rated average annual value of 925 thousand dollars for the remainder of the 2015-16 season.
Tanev will become a restricted free agent on July 1st, at which time the Jets will then be able to sign him to a bridge deal, or a longer term contract.
The 24 year old 6-1, 180 pound left winger from Toronto scored the winning goal in the 2015 NCAA Frozen Four Championship Game to cap off his junior year. This past season, Tanev scored 15 goals and added 13 assists for 28 points in 38 games with the defending champion Friars who saw their season come to an end last Friday in a loss to Minnesota-Duluth.
He is the younger brother of Vancouver Canucks Defenceman Chris Tanev who began his professional career with the Manitoba Moose during the 2010-11 season.
