A man from Winnipeg is facing several charges for impersonating an RCMP officer online.
Mounties allege Thomas Hanaway, 58, used the name of an active Manitoba police officer to create social media accounts and talk in online forums.
Police began the investigation after receiving multiple complaints from all over North America.
Hanaway was arrested Wednesday at his home in Winnipeg.
He’s charged with three counts of personating a peace officer and three counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
The RCMP is reminding you to be vigilant when online and add they never use social media accounts to conduct police investigations.
