The way that students report sexual assaults at Brandon University is about to change.
The University’s president is apologizing for forcing a student who was assaulted to sign a behavioural contract.
The contract directer her not to talk about the incident with anyone other than a counsellor.
The student group We Believe Surivors’ Stefon Irvine says the apology is a good start, but, the university needs a sexual assault policy.
“But also for the administration, employees and faculty, staff at BU to undergo prevention training,” says Irvine. “That’s really at the root of the problem, so that these folks know exactly how to handle sexual assault that’s survivor-centred.”
The university says it will draft a policy over the summer.
