There are almost 40,000 kids in Winnipeg that could get free money for college or university.
The trouble is, they’re not.
Mayor Brian Bowman is out to change that with ‘The Winnipeg Promise’.
As part of that, he’s organized a committee to will work with low-income families.
“To have their children receive money for post-secondary education. And so, you don’t need matching funds, you just sign up,” says Bowman.
He adds the Canada Learning Bond gives eligible children $2,000 from the federal government.
Bowman believes the reason kids aren’t getting it is the amount of paperwork required, which is something his group will help families with.
