Got an old city of Winnipeg parking ticket hanging over your head?
A technical glitch could mean you’re off the hook.
While the tickets are valid, portions of them didn’t comply for filing the paperwork in court.
So what does that mean to you?
The City’s Chief Operating Officer Michael Jack explains.
“The city will not be collecting any fines that were imposed as a result of tickets that go back beyond six years. So, anything prior to ’09, the city will no longer be collecting,” says Jack.
He adds they also won’t collect the fines for winter parking ban tickets issued before December 11, 2015.
Enjoy the reprieve while it lasts. Changes have been made so all tickets comply going forward.
“As soon as the issue was brought to our attention, we began investigating and worked to find a solution,” says Jack. “In addition to the changes being made to the parking ticket process, vehicles that have been impounded due to unpaid parking tickets are being released to their owners, and collection will no longer be pursued on outstanding parking tickets that were issued more than six years ago.”
If you did pay a parking ticket during that time, though, you’re not getting a refund.
