300 colorful boxes were placed on the steps of the Manitoba Legislature Saturday morning to represent the need for social housing in our province.
It was part of a rally hosted by the Right to Housing Coalition.
Coordinator Clark Brownly tells 680 CJOB they’re calling on the provincial parties to make a firm commitment to increase social housing.
“The current government has made commitments to build and build social housing and they standout amongst the other provinces in terms in what they’ve done. Is it enough? No, we’re asking for 300 new units a year for the next five years.”
Brownly notes the need is closed to 1000 new units a year, in order to stay ahead of the ones that are being demolished or the ones that are being converted into condos.
All the parties were invited to speak at the rally.
