The Canadian Football League is making another move aimed at improving the on field product. The CFL is joining forces with the National Football League on the formation of an Officiating Development Program that goes into effect this season.

Under the terms of the agreement, NFL Officials- primarily side judges and field judges- will be working with CFL crews during Pre-Season games in June as well as regular season games in July.
And a number of CFL Officials will then head south to participate in the NFL’s Officiating Development Program which includes attending mini camps and training camps.
The performance of CFL Officials has been a constant source of debate among players, coaches, fans, and the media. Especially with the dramatic rise in penalties over the last 2 or 3 seasons.
Earlier this year the CFL announced there will be a video review official monitoring all games with the idea of “getting it right” by assisting the on field crews when calls might have been missed.
