It’s not often you see so many tears being shed at the launch for a book. But that happened. Yesterday. At McNally-Robinson book store in Winnipeg.
I had the privilege of attending the book launch party for Carolyn Gray’s new autobiography–Dean Gunnarson: The Making of an Escape Artist. Many of you will know the name….but how well do you know the man? Dean has been performing around the world for decades now. In fact today, he boarded a plane for China where he will perform yet another death defying escape. (we didn’t get too many details on what he would be doing as Dean’s mother was in the audience. They have a “don’t ask-don’t tell” agreement when it comes to his “work.”)
But did you know that Dean was stricken with cancer at a very young age? He was 12 if memory serves when the dreaded leukemia diagnosis came. It was a diagnosis that forever shaped his life and world and introduced him to one of his dearest friends. His story and his journey are a pretty amazing one. If you have a chance, please pick up Carolyn Gray’s book. It’s a story of escaping tough times and just what a never give up attitude can do !
