A record 3.8 million people took off and landed at Winnipeg’s Richardson International Airport.
There’s a lot more on the horizon, too.
Airport Authority President and CEO, Barry Rempel says soon they’ll get more information on whether New Leaf will be taking off this summer.
“By the end of May, I’m sure we will be hearing something. Either we’re in, we’re moving or we’re not going to make this summer or something. But, we’ll be hearing some news,” said Rempel
Rempel says this year they’re excited for the new non-stop flights between here and London, England and Halifax.
He adds Porter Airlines is also testing service here this spring.
And that’s not all.
They’re continuing to work with Philippine Airlines, even travelling there about a month ago.
“We know there’s a market, we know there’s an interest in serving the market. We have to be able to now convince the regulator that the particular bilaterals between Canada and the country, the Philippines can be amended that allow that to happen. So, there’s a number of moving parts, none of which are any one person’s direct control,” Rempel tells 680 CJOB.
