Are people who don’t procreate discriminated against in the workplace?
Do you find yourself jealous of co-workers who take maternity or paternity leave? Well one woman thinks she has the answer: Meternity leave.
When 38-year-old Meghann Foye saw her co-workers taking a “break” for having babies, she decided she too needed some me-time. (The puns write themselves, really.) The author of “Meternity” thinks every woman deserves some mandated me time, because, as she explains to the New York Post, women fail to put themselves first. But why just women? Foye thinks meternity would benefit men and women who both experience burnout syndrome, but notes how research shows women may experience burnout at even greater rates than men.
So, I’ll ask you again, are people who don’t procreate discriminated against in the workplace?
Taking your calls and texts after 1pm: 204.780.6868. Would you like to see meternity leave in your workplace? If so, only for women, or for men and women? And would this be a paid sabbatical, or … ?
