Phil Kives. You might not know the name, but you certainly know his company. He was the founder of K-Tel and sadly, passed away yesterday at the age of 87. I don’t know about you but I sure “bought in” to the K-Tel line, especially when it came to their compilation albums. “Hit Machine” “Sound Explosion” “Goofy Greats” “Dynomite”….all albums that were the soundtrack of my youth. But less we forget the other many wonderful inventions from one Mr. Kives. There was the Veg-o-Matic. The Patty Stacker. The Record Selector. Oh who can’t remember the mood rings and t-shirts?
Phil Kives is, and will be, a Winnipeg legend. I’ve heard from several people who had the honor to work with the man and all said what a treat and treasure it was. He treated everyone with great respect and was always willing to hear new ideas.
Phil…you may be gone…..but gosh darn it……your products will forever live on….at least in my record collection.
