The fire situation seems to have calmed down – relatively – in Winnipeg.
There were eight reported fires from Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. The night before there were twelve.
It’s believed many of them were deliberately set.
The biggest is a house fire on Roberta Avenue.
That call came in around 2 o’clock Wednesday morning.
It’s believed the house was vacant at the time but it was too hot for firefighters to go in to do a sweep.
Around 10:30 last night, a car fire on McPhail Street in Elmwood spread to a nearby garage.
There are no reports of any injuries.
Think there’s been more fires this year. It may seem so, but the numbers don’t bear it out.
WFPS provided us the following statistics.
Total number of fires:
January to April 2015 =463
January to April 2016 =392
