The last 4 NHL playoff games needed overtime and the WHL took the trend into its championship series. The Brandon Wheat Kings opened the best-of-7 final with a 3-2 OT win over Seattle.

Despite the close score Brandon carried the offensive effort, out-shooting the Thunderbirds 42-33. Jordan Papirny made 31 saves for the win.
Game 2 of the series goes Saturday in Brandon at 7:30.
