Manitoba’s Liberal leader is stepping down following last month’s election.
Rana Bokhari issued a statement tonight saying she informed the party executive she will not lead the Liberals into the next election.
“I have informed the Manitoba Liberal Party Executive that I will not be leading the MLP into the next election.” The statement said, “Having kept my promise to build the infrastructure the Liberal Party needed to compete, I believe that the time is right to transition the party to a new leader who will be able to most benefit from a strong, united party and three fantastic MLAs.”
She took over the leadership in 2013, two years after the Liberals were reduced to one seat in the legislature.
They won 3 seats on April 19th but Bokhari lost to Wab Kinew in Fort Rouge.
She will stay on until a replacement is chosen and plans to return to practicing law.
